Group Publishes 9 War & History Magazines

Virginia-based World History Group (aka "HistoryNet") currently publishes nine bi-monthly or quarterly magazines focused on war and history topics. They are sold on newsstands, and by print and/or digital subscription.

Editors write:
We feel that the best guidelines for writing for our magazines are our magazines themselves. If you are interested in submitting a query or writing for our magazines, please pick up several issues from the past few months and read through them. By doing this, you can gain a better sense of the type of writing we are looking for here at World History Group.
The group publishes:
  • America’s Civil War - 6x annually; January, March, May, July, September, and November
  • Aviation History - 6x annually; January, March, May, July, September, and November
  • American History - 6x annually; February, April, June, August, October, and December
  • Civil War Times - 6x annually; February, April, June, August, October, and December
  • Military History - 6x annually; Jan/Feb, March/April, May/June/ July/August, September/October, November/December
  • Military History Quarterly - 4x annually; February (Spring), May (Summer), August (Autumn), and November (Winter)

According to the submissions information page, all content in Military History Quarterly and World War II magazines is by freelance writers. "If you are interested in writing for Military History or World War II, please send us a query—just a page or so—outlining the subject and your approach to it, and why you believe this would be an important article for the magazine. It would also be helpful if you would summarize briefly your prior writing experience in a cover note."

Writers guidelines specific to World War II magazine are here. World War II magazine specifies no simultaneous submissions or previously published material.

Writers should query all World History Group titles via e-mail (see list of addresses here) or the following postal address:
