Int'l War Poetry Contest Deadline: Sept. 15, 2018

The University College Dublin is conducting an international poetry competition for the best original poem on war and its effects. New and previously unpublished work only. Entry is FREE. Deadline is Sept. 15, 2018.

The "Voices of War" contest is intended to commemorate the centenary of the ending of the First World War, and to honor all those affected by violent conflict anywhere in the world. Prizes will be awarded in three categories, and shortlisted poems may be included in a commemorative performance in Dublin November 2018. The categories are:
  • "Open": This prize open to authors of all ages and nations. Prize: €1,000.
  • "New Voices": Authors under the age of 23. Prize: €500.
  • "Beyond Borders": Authors should be of a minority ethnic background and currently resident in Ireland. "We welcome entries from migrants, refugees, and applicants for international protection who are living in direct provision or other accommodation." Prize: €500.
Authors may submit up to three poems maximum. Poems must not exceed 60 lines in length, including title and stanza breaks. Send entries as Microsoft Word or PDF attachments, along with this entry form, to: voicesofwar AT ucd DOT ie
