Western Illinois' 'SITREP' Deadline: March 19, 2018

Editors of a military-themed literary magazine published on the campus of Western Illinois University are seeking fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and visual art from veterans who are students, faculty, staff, or alumni of that institution. Submissions to "SITREP: Veterans Perspectives on Combat and Peace" are not otherwise open to the public. Deadline is March 19, 2018.

With a total undergraduate and graduate student population of approximately 9,000, Western Illinois University is located in Macomb, Ill., with a satellite campus in the Quad-Cities metro area. The institution currently serves more than 650 student-veterans, and more than 65 military dependents. Western Illinois University offers many programs, resources, and financial assistance specific to those populations.

Since 2015, "SITREP" magazine has published three annual volumes, which are each archived and available FREE here at this link.

The publication's sustained success is due to a combination of on- and off-campus partnerships. According to a recent press release regarding the 2018 call for submissions:
In the past three years, small groups of advisors, editors and contributors have presented at a variety of venues, including the local Rotary Club, the Dealing With Differences Institute conference at WIU, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Macomb, the Macomb Women's Club, the Monmouth College American Association of University Women and The Conference on Community Writing in Boulder, CO. The team has communicated with classes at Illinois State University and Monmouth College, and connected with another veterans' writing group at University of Illinois.

In the past two years, the magazine has formed valuable community liaisons with The Buchanan Center for the Arts, directed by Kristyne Gilbert, and the Western Illinois Museum, directed by Sue Scott. Grant funds, provided by the Buchanan Center for the Arts, will help fund this year's magazine.

The magazine continues to receive valuable support from the WIU Veterans Resource Center, the WIU Department of English and the Council on Student Activities Fund.
Financial donations may be made via the SITREP website here at this link.

Writer-veterans with connections to Western Illinois University may submit materials to the next issue of "SITREP" by e-mail: SITREPWIU@gmail.com
